Getting a DM from THE Eric Koston wasn’t something we had on our bingo card.
We were already stoked. The crew at Coffs Creative, who help with our sports marketing and are longtime skaters themselves, might have been even more excited.
But the best part? This whole thing started with his son, Fynn.

It Started with Fynn
Before he ever had a P-51, Fynn had done his homework. He’d been following the bikes from afar, knew all about us, and was already a fan.
That’s what led Eric to reach out. He saw something Fynn was excited about and figured it could become another thing they enjoyed together, just like skateboarding.
Now, the two can head out for a ride, hit jumps and trails, or take their bikes to the skatepark for a session. What started with Fynn’s interest has become another way for them to spend time together, push each other, and have some fun.
For us, that’s a pretty cool thing to be part of.

Eric Had an Idea
Eric and Fynn gave us multiple days to shoot, and Eric brought an idea of his own: recreate an iconic skateboarding photo, with a P-51 twist.
Fynn would ride the P-51 Ace, tow Eric to build speed, and then ride underneath as Eric launched over him on his skateboard.
Easy enough, right?
There was a lot that had to come together. Fynn had to pull Eric fast enough to set up the jump, then get into the right position at exactly the right moment. Eric had to get the height and distance to clear him, all while making sure he didn’t land on his son.
Even for Eric Koston, that’s a pretty specific set of things to get right.

Getting the Shot
The location looked perfect on camera. The gravel and uneven ground made it a different story on a skateboard.
Getting enough speed, finding the right line, and timing the jump took work. It was a challenge that depended on both of them, and neither was ready to call it before they made it happen.
Watching them figure it out together was one of the best parts of the shoot. There was plenty of determination behind the final image, along with the trust it takes to let your dad jump a skateboard over your head.
The outcome? Pretty epic.

More Than a Great Shot
As much as we love how that moment turned out, the film captures something bigger.
Eric talks about fatherhood, sharing skateboarding with Fynn, and watching his son develop passions of his own. Seeing him take an interest in something Fynn had discovered, and then jump right into it alongside him, made this collaboration feel especially natural.
Huge thanks to Eric and Fynn for the time, the trust, and being down to make this happen. And to Coffs Creative for helping bring it all together.
From a DM to days like these, we’re stoked to be part of it.
